Displaced Memories is an interactive installation exploring the gradual disappearance of collective memory in my hometown as a consequence of mass tourism and gentrification.

Through body interaction, archival imagery and generative systems, the installation invites visitors to become active participants in the transformation of familiar places, reflecting on absence, identity and the fragile relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit.

The installation combines early twentieth-century archival photographs of Syracuse with a custom point cloud system developed in TouchDesigner. Images are translated into thousands of particles that react to the audience through Kinect tracking, allowing interaction to become an essential part of the narrative rather than a simple input mechanism. Typography is integrated as an emotional and conceptual layer, reinforcing themes of memory, displacement and identity.

Audience Experience

Visitors interact with the installation through their body movements, directly influencing the projected imagery. As they approach and move through the space, archival photographs dissolve into clouds of particles while their silhouettes emerge alongside keywords related to memory, places and people. The audience becomes both witness and participant in the gradual erosion of collective memory.
